A: Johns Hopkins is collaborating with Deerfield, an investment firm dedicated to advancing healthcare, to accelerate the translation of research in Johns Hopkins faculty laboratories into clinical therapeutics. Bluefield Innovations is a Deerfield company that will support Johns Hopkins’ innovative translational research and leverage Deerfield’s expertise in accelerating state-of-the-art drug development.
Bluefield will fund projects with the aim of establishing novel therapeutics to cure life-altering diseases.
Through Bluefield, Deerfield has committed up to $65 million in initial funding to support promising Johns Hopkins translational research. Deerfield will provide operational support, and may make additional capital investments into spin-off companies that emerge from Bluefield projects and show commercial potential.

A: Principal Investigators whose full-time employer is Johns Hopkins University or the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine or who have a faculty appointment at Johns Hopkins University or Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine and are subject to Johns Hopkins’ policies regarding the conduct of research and ownership of intellectual property.

A: There are two calls for proposals each year.
Q: When are Cycle 2 RFP applications for 2018 due?
A: Pre-proposal applications will be available starting October 15, 2018 and must be submitted by November 15, 2018 at 11:59 (EST).
Once the pre-proposal applications have been reviewed, invitations to submit Full proposal applications will be sent out via email by December 15, 2018. Full proposal applications must be submitted by January 15, 2019 at 11:59 (EST).
Projects selected for funding will be announced on April 15, 2019.
